"Donna Summer's art is music for the eyes"

An internationally acclaimed singer, Donna Summer has also an incredible talent that may be unsuspected to the general public. She's a gifted painter! For over 15 years, she has been creating several litographies, done successful exhibitions and conquered respect among art critics.

"I just paint what comes out. I have no theme generally. I start off with a blank, and I just start putting colors on, and when I see the colors move into position, I begin to make a painting"  - says Donna.

Her paintings are a unique blend of 'naive" and expressionistic art which she observed during her stay in Germany. She concentrates on a bold use of color to convey powerful emotions. Vibrant colors-reds, yellows-create visual focal points to lure the viewer into a pulsating world of visual harmonies. Linear forms are reduced to their essence, creating intense, stylized pattems. "I paint people from the inside out... from what I see in people... that's why my paintings are abstract and not well defined... because who can truly know the heart of another person?" - she explains.

The artist created her first original lithographs in 1989-90 at New York's prestigious American Atelier, New York. According to Mauro Giuffrida, Technical Director of The American Atelier, "As an artist in the field of music, Donna is adept at expressing her wishes verbally and collaborating with others to achieve the effects she desires. These skills gave her a tremendous advantage as she created her lithographs." Summer's graphic works combine bold, expressive strokes and fields of color to structure a complex invention of harmonies and dissonance. In "Hard for the Money", her Fauve-like usage of vibrant, intense colors displays a sophisticated ense of expressing emotions in visual terms.

The art of Donna Summer reveals the dramatic energy expressed in her music and her paintings have been described as "music for the eyes." A self-trained artist, she freely reveals her talents visually in haunting, vibrant imagery. Her works are intensely personal, with expressive,
jazzlike rhythms referencing her musical persona. In 1990, the artist's paintings, drawings and graphic works were exhibited for the first time in major one-person shows in Circle Gallery, San Diego, Bal Harbour and Beverly Hills.
A Description of Donna's Art Work

By Jack Solomon
Chairman and Founder
Circle Fine Art Corporation

"Donna Summer's art is music for the eyes. When you view her paintings, drawings and lithographs, you sense the same energy and harmony that permeates her music. She has been a painter for fifteen years, but it is only now, with this exhibition, that her visual art becomes accessible to the public.

"Who knows the mystery of why so few of us are touched with sparks of genius and prodigious talent? Donna Summer is a rare person, one who has been doubly blessed with creative ability for both music and art. She is a Renaissance woman. With this first art exhibition, Ms. Summer begins a career to be cone urrent with music, one that is sure to engender a whole new range of artistic accomplishments and triumphs."
