Note: Singles that reached 1 million copies sold were certified gold  until 1989, from this year on the requirement for a gold certificate was reduced to 500,000 copies only. For a platinum certification, a single had to sell 2 million, but in 1989 this figure was decreased to 1 million only. Therefore, This Time I Know It’s For Real is Donna’s only gold  single that wasn’t a million seller.

There has been no change in the criteria for albums.

She was the 1^st female artist to score 3 #1 hits within the same year (1979) and to sell nearly 20 million singles and albums within 4 years in the USA alone.
